Britain is experiencing one of the longest hot spells since the scorching summer of 1976 – and the prolonged heat is proving unbearable for some.
Thousands of Brits are struggling to get a good night’s sleep as temperatures don’t drop below 21C at night in most of the South and Midlands.
To deal with the uncomfortable heat before bed, some inventive homeowners have taken to social media to show off their creative ways to stay cool.

Holly Baleen was missing a regular hot water bottle and she decided to improvise with plastic Sprite bottles. But her idea proved successful, commenting that “it was still half frozen this morning” after a night in bed.
And it seems celebrities are struggling with the heat too, with Susannah Constantine revealing she’s been sleeping outside because her house is “too hot”.
The 58-year-old What Not To Wear star posted a picture of herself with a makeshift bed in her sprawling 127-acre garden in West Sussex over the weekend.
At first glance, Susannah could be seen tucked under several quilts and comforters, which probably didn’t help in the heat.
And on Good Morning Britain, Kate Garraway shared her secret tip for avoiding a sleepless night.
When asked for advice on her and co-host Adil Ray, Kate said: “I’ve tried soaking your bed sheet in water, it works a bit but then you get too cold.”
dr ITV’s Sarah Jarvis then suggested a cool shower before bed and supported using a cold hot water bottle.
However, she issued a warning that people should not apply ice directly to the skin as it can cause ice burns.
