Former Vice President Mike Pence called for a national abortion ban after the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 Friday to rule Roe v. Wade to repeal the 1973 constitutional right to abortion.

“Now that Roe v. Wade was sent to the ashes of history, a new arena in the cause of life has emerged, and it behooves all who value the sanctity of life to resolve that we shall take up the defense of the unborn and the support of women in Crisis pregnancy centers in every state in America,” Pence told Breitbart News.

Beginning June 24, the decision to immediately ban or limit abortion procedures will be made by state legislatures. Pence, who has spoken out in his pro-life views, wants to push abortion restrictions like those in California, where lawmakers have promised to be a haven for those who want abortions.

Following the Supreme Court decision, Pence, through his organization Advancing American Freedom, released a three-minute video in which he praised the vote while highlighting his anti-abortion journey since his election to Congress in 2001.

Pence, who proposed the first Planned Parenthood defunding bill in 2007, has recently spent some time visiting states with crisis pregnancy centers.

The landmark of Roe v. Wade has allowed abortions up to the first two trimesters of pregnancy for 50 years.

There are 13 states that want to ban abortion immediately: Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.

Meanwhile, West Coast states, namely California, Oregon and Washington, are attempting to create a roadmap dubbed the “West Coast Offensive” that would provide residents in and out of state with continued access to abortion.
