Police are hunting a Michigan sniper involved in 22 car shots in two weeks that have so far caused one injury.
A task force of investigators has begun questioning drivers in four Michigan counties in hopes of catching a man suspected of shooting fellow freeway drivers head-on. Police investigators are looking for something out of the ordinary during their traffic stops in Oakland, Livingston, Ingham and Shiawassee counties.
More than 100 local officers, sheriff’s deputies, state troopers and federal agents are now involved in the investigation, which began Oct. 16 with reported shootings in Wixom, about 25 miles northwest of Detroit.

A local man was shot in the butt Saturday while driving east on Interstate 96 in Livingston County, which said caused a nearby school to be closed United Press International.
That victim was the only person injured so far, but the suspect is believed to be shooting at people and not just their vehicles, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said Tuesday.
“It was more the grace of God than the guy missing people on purpose,” Bouchard said. “We’ve had people missing (by) inches. A bullet lodged in a driver’s seat.”
“The suspect is believed to be firing at vehicles approaching from the opposite direction,” Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said.
“Some motorists did not realize their vehicles had been hit until they had driven a quarter mile or more,” he said.
The investigative team has received more than 800 leads so far and has increased the reward for all leads leading to an arrest from $12,000 to $102,000.
Witnesses have described the suspect’s vehicle as dark
1998 Oldsmobile Alero or 1998 Toyota Camry. Those initial descriptions may not be accurate, Shaw said.

On Monday, police pulled over the driver of a dark-colored Chevy Cavalier after a woman reported that her car was hit by something at 9:05 a.m. on US 23 near Brighton, Michigan.
No arrests were made.
Local officials say capturing the suspect is a must, not only to save lives but also to stop the spread of fear among citizens in the area.
“For Halloween, we will be conducting special patrols in each of our subdivisions so kids can have a normal Halloween,” said Clarence Goodlein, director of public safety at Wixom.
“We will not let a thug and crook bully us and change the course of our lives.”
