A man wearing shorts that read “RUDE” is said to have attempted to rape a woman in her New York City apartment over the weekend.
Police said the man followed the 53-year-old woman to her building on the grounds of Lillian Wald Houses on the Lower East Side around 9 a.m. Sunday before making his way to her apartment.
He tried to rape the woman inside with a knife point, police added.
The suspect is “WANTED for attempted rape near the Lillian Wald homes,” NYC Crime Stoppers posted Monday on the organization’s Instagram page.

The crime occurred at Lillian Wald Houses, a housing project on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
Rape and assault in New York City have increased 8 and 19 percent, respectively, since this time last year.
CCTV photos show the suspect wearing a silver hat, black T-shirt and a chain around his neck.
The police are still looking for the suspect.
They are also offering a reward of up to $3,500 for any information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
