Louis Tomlinson says it would be a 'shame' if One Direction didn't reunite

Reunion: Louis Tomlinson said he thinks it would be

Louis Tomlinson said he thinks it would be “a shame” if he and his One Direction bandmates never got back together.

The 30-year-old singer was one-fifth of the group that first rose to fame with 2010’s The X Factor and went on to become one of the highest-grossing boy bands of all time.

On Thursday’s episode of Lorraine on ITV, Louis opened up about the prospect of a reunion and also looked back on the group’s rise to fame.

When asked if we could get back together, he said: “One day there will be a lot of moving parts but it would be a shame if we didn’t. Hopefully.’

One Direction consisted of Louis, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Liam Payne.

Zayn left the group in early 2015 and the remaining four released another album – Made In The AM – before going their separate ways.

Of the group’s success, Louis said: “It’s easier now to look inside from the outside, it’s been a crazy time but amazing to go through with other people. It would have been scary to go through it alone at that age.

Lorraine told Louis she couldn’t believe his son Freddie was six years old, and Louis replied, “Yeah, such a great age right now.”

Lorraine then asked, “Now does he know his father is a big deal?”

Louis laughed and said: “I’m not going to lie, until he saw my show on the tour in LA about four months ago it was just stories from me trying to explain to him what I’m doing – obviously quite a really hard one to explain.

“But it was amazing to watch him – I could see him, I saw where he was, he had arrived with his own little banner.

“He usually goes to bed at 7 a.m. but he stayed up the whole gig. It was definitely the most emotional gig I’ve ever done – but it was amazing.”

Louis also spoke about the recording of his new album and how it differs from his debut album. He revealed: “With my first record it was a bit of a process – there was an element of trial and error.

“Obviously when you come out of a band the size of One Direction it takes time to find yourself musically, but I really think I found it on this album and single.”

Lorraine said it was an optimistic record and Louis replied: “It was a conscious decision. On my first record I had an emotional weight that I felt was right for the time, but now I wanted to break away from that and be optimistic.’

Louis also revealed he’s had a chance to declutter his brain during lockdown.

He said: “Everyone’s experience is individual. I myself spend a large part of my life thinking about what comes next. And there’s always some element of pressure in my life, I’m used to that.

“The great thing about that time was that I had the chance to clear out my brain and really think about the next record and how do you want it to sound and feel?

“If I hadn’t had that reset time it might have been a different record so I’m happy to have that time.”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
