Katie Price revealed she was raped during a horrific car theft in South Africa in 2018 while speaking ahead of her harrowing documentary Trauma And Me.

In an interview with MailOnline, the 44-year-old media personality recalled the horrific ordeal she was held at gunpoint during filming for her Quest Red reality show My Crazy Life with ITV.

She described the traumatic events that led her to reach and seek breaking point Treatment for PTSD, in an open Mental Illness Discussion.

Ahead of the Channel 4 programme, which was filmed after last year’s car accident, Katie spoke about her triggers and suffering leading up to the accident.

She said: “The experience when I was filming with ITV in South Africa, we didn’t have security, if we had had security they would have been able to deal with the six guys who jumped us, held me at gunpoint and raped me.”

Katie was thrown from the vehicle by the attackers during her trip from Johannesburg to Swaziland in two minivans carrying the production crew.

Katie first spoke about her harrowing experience during a 2020 episode of Channel 4’s SAS: Celebrity Who Dares Wins, in which she said: “Police said it was a miracle they didn’t kill us.”

Her stints at The Priory rehab center served to treat her post-traumatic stress disorder, as she also added that therapy has taught her to deal with her past and to recognize what triggers it.

Katie explained: “I’ve had my eyes opened many times. If you walk into The Priory, people assume it must be drinks or drugs. I’ve never been to the priory for alcohol, drugs or addiction. I was at the priory for trauma rehabilitation for PTSD.’

She continued, “Because of what people believe, it affects me. There is a stigma that if you go to the Priory you are a false man [one], But that’s not true. I think the people that go in there are brave because they face their demons and whatever their problems are to make themselves a better person.

“Mental health doesn’t matter how big or how small I seem, if it’s big for someone, it’s big for them too. It’s just different. Everything can happen.’

Speaking about the dark place she was experiencing with her mental health at the time of last year’s horrific drinking accident, Katie explained: “I live in the country, I didn’t have an outlet, I needed to talk to someone and that night I left it to ‘down.’

She added,

She added, “I think the people that go in there are brave because they’re going to face their demons and whatever their problems are to make themselves a better person.”

“I’m not justifying anything, there was a reason I got in the car and why my head was like this.

“Unfortunately I ended up in this place. I would never come back to this place. It happened and it’s real, but I’ve learned.’

The former glamor model, who still goes to therapy, said: “I’m maybe 44 now and I have therapy every week but I wish I had done this years ago. It would have stopped many things I might have said or reacted to.

“I have to accept [certain situations] and bite back on nothing.

“It’s hard for me to say because I don’t want to sound bitter and I’m not bitter. I am now discussing my situation with my therapist.’

As she deals with her PTSD and past trauma, Katie continued, “I feel like I need to protect myself. I don’t post anything on Instagram anymore. I no longer have to justify myself. I don’t owe anyone anything.

“I’m not going on Instagram anymore and I’m like, ‘Well, that’s wrong,’ comes to mind, and then I count down, and when I get to zero I’m just like, ‘Oh, forget it.’

“I feel better and I feel stronger for that. I don’t have to correct or prove anything to anyone. i know the truth I’ve grown up!’

In her latest documentary, Katie talks about what has caused her mental health to deteriorate and the steps she is taking in her recovery.

“There’s a lot in the program, but there’s a hell of a lot I haven’t put into it. It’s only 45 minutes but it’s enough to know I’ve suffered,” she said.
