It was first announced in June, and now Apple has revealed the launch date for its iOS 16 update.
The software update, which will be available for iPhone 8 and later, will finally be rolled out on September 12th.
The launch date was confirmed yesterday during Apple’s Far Out event, where Apple also announced four new iPhones – the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
“Designed to take advantage of the new capabilities of iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16 offers a redesigned lock screen, as well as new communication, sharing and intelligence features that together transform the way users experience iPhone,” Apple said in a statement post in his newsroom.
Here’s a look at all the key features coming with iOS 16 on September 12th.

Personalized lock screen
The biggest update coming with iOS 16 is the lock screen, which can now be personalized.
Users can choose to showcase their favorite photos, customize font styles, and display a range of widgets on the lock screen.
For example, if you regularly check the weather, you can have a weather widget permanently on your iPhone’s lock screen.
“The lock screen is more personal, beautiful and helpful than ever, with a multi-layered effect that artfully brings themes from photos to the forefront of time and redesigned widgets that provide information at a glance,” Apple said.
“For lock screen inspiration, the wallpaper gallery offers a range of options including Apple Collections, a weather wallpaper to see live weather conditions as they change throughout the day, an astronomy wallpaper for views of the earth, the moon and the solar system and much more.’

Messages
If you’re always making typos, you’ll be happy to hear about a bunch of handy new tools coming to the Messages app.
“You can now edit a message you just sent or retract a recently sent message altogether,” Apple explained.
“And you can mark a message as unread if you can’t reply right now and want to come back to it later.”

Apple has introduced a new iCloud Shared Photo Library, which it describes as the “best way to share photos with your family.”
Users can choose what to include in their shared library based on a start date or the people in the photos.
“Once the shared library is set up, you can instantly share photos right from the camera, automatically share when other shared library members are nearby, and get smart suggestions for adding photos to the shared library in For You,” explained Apple.

The search function in Mail has been improved to provide more accurate and complete results.
And like messages, users can now undo emails.
“Just send an email you just sent, schedule messages to be sent whenever you want, and get reminders to follow up on a message or come back to it later,” Apple said.
live text
Live Text has been updated and is now available for videos and quick actions.
“Live Text becomes more powerful with the ability to recognize text in videos and quickly convert currencies, translate text and more,” Apple said.
For example, if you were on vacation in France and wanted to quickly find out how much a basket of grapes cost in your local currency, you could snap a photo of the price tag and your iPhone would instantly convert the currency.

Apple Maps now lets you add multiple stops ahead of time to your routes.
“Plan ahead for multiple stops along your route, or simply access previous routes in Recents,” Apple explained.
“Maps also sync across all your devices, so you can look up directions on your Mac and view them on your iPhone when you’re ready to go.”
health and fitness
Apple has added a new Medicines feature to the Health app.
“The new Medications feature in the Health app helps you manage, track, and understand the medications you’re taking,” it said.
Meanwhile, users can now benefit from the fitness app even without an Apple Watch.
“The fitness app can help you track and achieve your fitness goals even if you don’t have an Apple Watch,” Apple added.
“By using iPhone motion sensors, you can now get an estimate of your calories contributing to your daily motion goal based on your steps, distance, and third-party workouts.”
