Amid the destruction and damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, a New Jersey couple celebrates the miracle of life after enduring a horrific ordeal to give birth to their baby boy.
A pregnant mother went into labor as the super storm swept the northeast on Monday night, forcing the expectant mother to seek medical attention in dangerous conditions.
Although only 35 weeks pregnant, Christine Hawg, 34, went into labor at her home in Skillman, NJ, just as the hurricane was devastating the Garden State and all residents were being warned to take shelter and stay indoors.

Desperate for medical help as her contractions became more frequent, her husband David called 911 and rescue workers braved the terrible weather conditions when the storm made landfall.
“We knew that a lot of trees were down and roads were blocked left and right,” said her husband David abc news.
First responders attempted to transport the couple to a Princeton hospital in an ambulance, but flooding and dangerous road conditions made this impossible.

Then the ambulance got stuck in the mud and, as the mother was in excruciating pain, she was put in a fire truck, which took her the rest of the way.
“It was definitely stressful,” her husband said.
The ambulance eventually reached a Hackensack University Medical Center mobile medical unit temporarily based in the gymnasium of a local church.
That Hawdys welcomed a healthy baby boy, Liam Alexander, at 11pm on Monday.
The newborn weighed 5 pounds and 2 ounces. The couple are already parents to five children, but their newest member surely marks the most memorable arrival of the brood. Mother and child are healthy and doing well.
They were transported to a nearby hospital until they could return home.
