The production is inspired by the true story of Nicholas Winton – a London stockbroker who hatched an elaborate plan to save hundreds of children in Czechoslovakia from invading Nazis.

The title is a paraphrase from the Jewish Talmud: “He who saves one life saves the whole world.”

Helena will play Winton’s mother, Babi Winton, who was of German-Jewish descent but had settled in north-west London with her husband.

According to Deadline, her scenes will be with Johnny Flynn, who portrays Winton in his younger years.

Dressed in casual 1940s clothing, Helena donned a knee-length green cardigan over a tweed skirt and brown shirt.

Staying true to form, she continued to layer up in a tartan hooded fleece while sipping her hot beverage between scenes.

Nicholas Winton’s story recently went viral when a YouTube clip revealed a 1988 episode of BBC show That’s Life when Esther Rantzen hosted a special edition with him.

During the programme, the 82-year-old TV presenter asked: “Is there anyone in our audience who owes their life to Nicholas Winton? If so, could you please stand up?’

Everyone in the studio audience stood up and the episode was viewed many millions of times on You Tube.

Jonathan Pryce, Romola Garai and Alex Sharp are also rumored to be in the drama, but no release date has been announced yet.

Who was Sir Nicholas Winton?

Dubbed “Britain’s Schindler” for his heroic efforts, Sir Nicholas Winton almost single-handedly saved more than 650 children from dying in Nazi concentration camps.

Fighting bureaucracy on both ends, Winton arranged trains to take the children from Nazi-held Prague to Britain.

After that he remained silent about his deeds for half a century – the secret of his selfless commitment remained undiscovered until Mrs. Grete found an old briefcase in the attic in 1988, in which there was a scrapbook and lists of the children, the names of the parents and the families found who gave them a home.

Winton was born in London in 1909 to German-Jewish parents and grew up as a Christian himself.

He was a 29-year-old clerk on the London Stock Exchange when a friend contacted him and told him to cancel the skiing holiday planned for late 1938 and go to Czechoslovakia instead.

Appalled at the treatment of Jews under the Nazi occupation, he organized eight evacuations of threatened children on the Czech Kindertransport train.

He advertised foster families in newspapers, organized residence permits with the immigration authorities in Great Britain and persuaded the Germans to let the children go.

Through the British Committee for Refugees from Czechoslovakia (BCRC), he worked around the clock to find British families willing to put up the then hefty sum of £50 and agreed to look after the children until they were 17 years old.

In the months leading up to the outbreak of World War II, eight trains carried children through Germany to Britain.

In all, Winton brought out 669 children.

It was Sir Nicholas’ greatest regret that a last train carrying 250 children, due to depart in early September 1939, was prevented from departing in the invasion of Poland. All are believed to have died in Auschwitz along with 1.1 million Czech Jews.

Although many more children from Berlin and Vienna were rescued, Winton worked almost alone.
