
The hackers who used ransomware to attack the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) over Labor Day weekend have now made a ransom demand, according to the district chief.
Superintendent Alberto Carvalho announced this on Tuesday Los Angeles Times that a demand had been made but the district had not responded. Carvalho declined to reveal the amount of money demanded.
The blackmail attempt marks an inevitable escalation of the ransomware attack — which targeted the country’s second-largest school district when students returned after summer break — and raises questions about what sensitive information the hackers might have been able to get their hands on.
