Greek police have admitted they have not issued an arrest warrant after a Brit said she was raped by a group of Belgian men – saying: “It has not been proven whether her claims are true.”
Konstantina Damoglidou, a senior spokeswoman for the Hellenic Police, said: “We are continuing to investigate the allegations because the authorities have not yet established that their claims are true and are therefore arresting or remanding the men involved in their complaint.
Authorities are awaiting the results of a forensic examination and medical tests requested by the victim following her alleged rape by a group of four Belgian men after a night of heavy drinking in the hedonistic resort of Faliraki on the island of Rhodes.
The spokesman added: “No suspect was arrested because no warrant was issued.”

The Brit told police she had consensual sex with one of the Belgian men on the hotel balcony and in a room, local newspaper Dimokratiki reports. She said her friends left during that time. Greece balked at the summertime descent of British tourists, particularly to islands like Rhodes, for years, concerned their rowdy and unruly behavior would eclipse the country’s cheerful holiday image and instead turn iconic popular resorts into hotspots of hedonism.
But thrown into chaos by the Covid-19 pandemic, hotels and tourism businesses in Rhodes, Crete and other sun-kissed Greek islands have been pleased to see a surge in returning British tourists this summer.
Details of the British woman were not given. However, authorities said she was with a group of friends at a club in Faliraki when they were joined by a group of four Belgian men.
The Brit told police she had consensual sex with one of the Belgian men on the hotel balcony and in a room, local newspaper Dimokratiki reports. She said her friends left during that time.
The police spokesman said: “They apparently hit it off and went back to their hotel. She claimed she consented to the sex.
“But when she left, she filed gang rape charges, saying she was immobilized by two of the four and gang raped. She does not specifically refer to their names in her charges.’
The woman told police she fled the hotel and took a taxi back to her hotel.
She reported the alleged gang rape to police at 7 a.m. local time Monday morning.
Police have arrested four Belgian suspects whose names have not been released. The British woman has identified the four men as her alleged rapists.
Investigators have taken DNA samples from the four men while police continue their search for the other suspects.
