A doctor has died after running out of water and getting lost while hiking in Arizona with five others in triple-digit heat.
Authorities confirmed that 32-year-old Dr. Evan Dishion died Monday afternoon while hiking near Cave Creek.
Five people were evacuated after Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies received a 1:25 p.m. call about hikers in trouble at Spur Cross Trailhead Mountain, about 40 miles north of Phoenix.
The hikers had continued down the trail after running out of water before getting lost, the Scottsdale Fire Department said.
The doctor is survived by a three-month-old daughter named Chloe and his wife Amy Dishion.

All their cell phones were dead after hiking in the heat, leaving them without the ability to communicate about four miles into the trail.
The group borrowed someone else’s phone to call the fire department, who arrived at the scene to get the group to safety.
“As we climbed this trail, the temperature on the pavement alone showed 127 degrees on our truck,” said Scottsdale Fire Department Captain Dave Folio.
“I think it was warm outside, so it was extreme heat. They should have left the trail three or four hours ago.”
Dishion was among those evacuated from the trail, but he later died in hospital from heat exhaustion.
A high of 109 degrees Fahrenheit was reported Monday, 6 degrees above normal, according to the Phoenix National Weather Service.
Officials said the five other walkers did not need to be taken to hospital and were expected to be fine.
‘To have a plan; know your limits,” added Folio. “That’s the message we’re trying to spread.”

The hikers had walked four miles when they ran out of water and were unable to call for help because their phones had dead batteries. Authorities are warning hikers to bring more water than they need and to plan their hikes well in advance
Authorities warned hikers to plan their route, stay on their path and bring as much water as possible – and urged hikers to turn back once their water supply has been cut in half.
Dishion’s family and friends described him as a “loving father and caring husband to his 3-month-old daughter Chloe and his wife Amy Dishion”.
Originally from Salem, Dishion moved to Phoenix to become a neurologist after graduating from Creighton Medical School in the spring of 2021 and was in his second year as a resident at Barrow Neurological Institute.
