“My son has the funniest smile when he’s trying too hard,” the father told GMA. “Eventually I learned that if I just yelled ‘POOP’ and snapped the picture, it worked a lot better.”

“So that’s the secret to a good picture,” added another.

Others were inspired to share how they make their own children smile for pictures, and some even included photos.

Speaking about the viral post in an interview with Good Morning America, Perry said they always take pictures on the first day of school.

However, that day they were in a hurry and found it difficult to get a good shot.

“My son always has the funniest smile when he’s trying too hard,” he explained. “Eventually I learned that it always works much better if I just yell ‘POOP’ and take a quick picture.

“In this case it was quite a dramatic comparison so I thought I’d share it,” he added.

Perry’s post has since gone viral on Reddit, Instagram, and Facebook. He admitted he just “expected five to ten people to like it” — and off we went.

“This post must have really resonated with people, and I’ve had tons of messages from people using this trick and getting amazing pictures of their kids, which for me is the best part of all of this,” he told GMA.
