Author and former model Sandra Howard answers our travel questions and answers
This week, former model and author Sandra Howard joins our travel Q&A.
She reveals the best trip abroad she took when her husband Michael Howard was Cabinet Secretary, her most memorable modeling assignment and more…
EARLIEST HOLIDAY MEMORY?
Traveled to Cape Town from Bulawayo as a child in the late 1940s. Halfway the train broke down and I have a horrible memory of baboons crawling all over the carriage.
MOST MEMORABLE MODELING JOB?
Kenya to do a photo shoot for a women’s magazine in 1970. You wouldn’t spend that long on a model trip today. It would be way too expensive.
BEST TRIP ABROAD WHEN HER HUSBAND MICHAEL WAS CABINET MINISTER?

Sandra admits she “fell in love” on her first visit to Bolivia. Above is the Bolivian city of La Paz
When he was home secretary, he visited Bolivia because he wanted to stop the flow of drugs to Britain.
I fell in love with the country, saw the women with their melons and tried coca tea – it’s made from a different leaf than cocaine, but my lover still didn’t want to drink it.
FAVORITE DESTINATION?

Grenada is one of Sandra’s favorite destinations because of its “lovely, hilly and green” scenery. Above is the country’s Grand Etang National Park
Grenada because it’s so beautiful, hilly, green and has beautiful beaches. People are so friendly too.
HOLIDAY FROM HELL?
Mid Wales when the kids were little. It was pouring rain and we sat on the beach in anoraks.
TRAVEL BEAUTY TIP?
Don’t wear a lot of makeup as it will look tired at the end of a flight.
